Park Place is a 21 story building in the heart of Seattle, WA. This 10,000 square foot green roof was added in February 2009, when the building was re-roofed.

After a two-week delay in the construction schedule, the 20,000, 72-cell sedum plugs arrived by the truckload ready to plant. A crane was used to hoist pallet shippers filled with plants onto the roof.

It took only two days for the roofing crew to completely plant the roof at a rate of two plugs per square foot. The plugs were planted into 4" of growing media. Six months post installation, the plants were well established and filling in nicely.

The roof does not have a permanent irrigation system, but water was provided with a hose and sprinkler during a few of the hottest summer days on record for Seattle. Some varieties showed stress prior to watering, but the plants were doing well considering the long dry period and soaring temperatures.

Plant varieties: Top Left - Sedum hybridum 'Immergrunchen'; Top Center - Sedum spurium 'Red Carpet'; Top Right - Sedum reflexum 'Blue Spruce'; Center - Sedum album 'Coral Carpet'. Other varieties not shown here: Sedum floriferum 'Weihenstephaner Gold', Sedum kamtschaticum 'Variegatum', Sedum spurium 'John Creech', Sedum rupestre 'Angelina'.
